Mary loves.
Over the years the idea of a mission was always in the back of Mary's mind. About a year ago Mary told me that she had decided she was definitely going to serve a mission and couldn't wait until she could go! Here she is working on her "papers" (everything is actually done electronically now) a few months ago. She finished all of the paperwork within a week, just waiting for today....
She can finally turn in her papers! Mary turns 21 in March (the age a woman must be before she goes) and she plans on leaving after this semester of school has ended. That's why she has waited until now to turn them in. In about two weeks (around Valentine's Day) she should be getting her mission call in the mail! She is so excited and I think I'm almost as excited as she is to find out where she will serve!
Within these next couple of weeks members of the Quorom of the Twelve Apostles, under the direction of President Monson, will take the time to look through Mary's paperwork, at her picture and get a feel for who she is - then they choose where she should go. That is really neat to think about.
ALRIGHT EVERYBODY! Leave a comment with your guess of where she will be going. To make things interesting Mary says she will mail something from that place (what it is will be a surprise!) to whoever is closest in their guess!
Here are a few things that may help you guess:
- Mary hates seafood.
- Mary hopes to go to Europe or an exotic island.
- Mary really hopes NOT to go to Utah, Idaho, California or Colorado - all too close.
- Mary has had TONS of dreams of receiving her mission call, but usually without opening it. There are only 2 dreams where she actually found out what her call said:
- Mary was at a party with her friends at school. The call had been mailed to our parents and our Dad texted her saying "You are going to Alton, New York". (Mary had never heard of Alton, but after Google-ing it discovered it's a real place that is only 30 minutes from Palmyra, New York! An important place in our church's history)
- Mary opened the call in her apartment surrounded by friends. She read that she was going to Boise, Idaho. She looked up and said "Figures", then everyone said "uh, gotta go" and left her alone. Lame!
Guess away! Just a couple of weeks till we find out!!!
Do I get to guess first? I'm going to say Tahiti, because I love to shake my hips. Haha
ReplyDeleteThailand!
ReplyDeleteChrystal says Mexico (really cool!) but I say New York South (the best mission ever).
ReplyDeleteTemple Square!!! Just kidding. I'm going to say Brazil. On the East Coast. Maybe Rio or Vitoria if you're lucky. :)
ReplyDeleteMary - I'm not sure what your mission president will say about sister missionaries shaking their hips...
ReplyDeleteI'll say South Africa.
I'm going to say if it's stateside, it's probably New York (hopefully New York, New York South so I can find you hahaha)
ReplyDeleteIf it's international, I'm going to guess Brazil
I guess Louisiana.
ReplyDeleteAfter thinking long and hard about where you will go...I think you will be called to serve in San Francisco! You will even learn to like squid and other disgusting looking foods.
ReplyDeleteJonny that was just plain mean. Mary - I'd wish you to go anywhere on earth before San Francisco!
ReplyDeleteTonga. Warm sunny and there are some Mormons there already. You'll learn to love fish, octopus, and poi. Sounds awesome!
ReplyDeleteand if you go to Tonga I'll make sure you know how to tell people to go take a shower. We'll have to spend some time with our globe before we put in our guesses. I feel a Family Home Evening coming on...
ReplyDeleteAmanda, I feel like I am already qualified to teach people that, as I do shower regularly. :) unless there is some trick to it or something?
ReplyDeleteAlton, New York and the Sacred Grove / Smith farm!
ReplyDeleteIn Tongan, Aunt Mary. I can teach you to say it in Tongan!
ReplyDeleteMary! I think you are going to be called to Spain!!!!
ReplyDeleteAmanda--oh. Haha, that makes so much more sense!
ReplyDeleteI want two guesses.
ReplyDeleteIf you are going foreign: Italy. Because you are a fantastic cook, you have graduated from seminary (which makes you a religious scholar), and you are loud and brassy. In short, you will fit right in with the Italians.
If you are going Stateside: I say you go to South Carolina. Mountains, beaches, palm trees and snow, it has the whole terrain. Plus, it is basically a different country because the people and culture are so different. It will be hot as a sauna and just as steamy, but those are adjectives that describe you Mary. You will get along grandly.
I say New York (speaking a different language) for domestic...and Tonga (speaking English) for foreign. :) :) :) Love you. --Heather W.
ReplyDeleteMATTHEW Y. says............
ReplyDeletewell as far as state side goes, I think San Diego could work very nicely. And foreign? I vote ITALY!!!! Spero che ci possa andare!!!! (oops, you dont speak italian...yet...)
Mary Fairy-you shall go to SWITZERLAND, or Nashville Tennessee to convert Miley Cyrus!

Our guesses are in. Owen-China. Lily-Mongolia or Algeria. Luke-Hawaii. Luke was very enthusiatic in his guess; he's was smacking Hawaii with a huge grin...maybe he thought we were picking a vacation spot.
ReplyDeleteI decided that if Luke gets to guess then Shayla can too. Both times I brought her to the map she pointed to the Bering Strait so.... I think she means either Alaska or Russia.
ReplyDeleteSamoa
ReplyDeleteI don't have a specific country or place to guess, more that I think you'll go somewhere that isn't culturally all that different. And not even necessarily English speaking. I just think you'll stay in a developed country. No goats or chickens on the bus.
